FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about Taxi Cab Licencing
Anyone driving a taxicab who picks up passengers for a fare in The City of Frederick must be licenced by the City as a taxi cab driver. To become a licenced driver, you must make application with the City by taking the following steps:
1. Complete an application form. You can get one by visiting http://cityoffrederick.com/police and clicking the link for taxicab licencing. You can also call 301 600-2716 to have one mailed to you, or you can pick one up at the Frederick Police Department.
2. Sign the application. By doing that, you will be swearing that the information is correct, so make sure that the application is completed fully and honestly.
3. Get certified copies of your driving record(s) from every state where you have ever been licenced (note from David Bruce Jr: a certified MVA copy of your driving record costs more, you have to tell MVA that you want a certified copy),whether or not you still have a licence there.
4. Get a statement from a health care professional that verifies that you are physically able to safely driver a taxicab. If you have a current D.O.T. card, that's applicable. (a D.O.T. card usually is for C.D.L. licenced truck drivers, some vehicles require D.O.T. certification even if you don't drive a large truck, you can get D.O.T. physicals locally in Frederick at CorpOHS Monday-Friday 7:00am - 5:00pm )
490-L Prospect Boulevard • Weis Festival Plaza

5. Get screened for illegal drug use. This must occur within the week before you make application. Drug tests more than 7 days old will not be accepted. (CorpOHS can perform drug screens as well as the D.O.T. certification)
6. Make a copy of your drivers licence, and if you're not a US Citizen, a copy of your Employment Authorization Card (Green Card).
7. Get two checks or money orders. One will be payable to The City of Frederick. The second will be payable to CJIS Central Repository.
I HAVE ALL MY PAPERWORK… NOW WHAT HAPPENS?
Once you have completed all the steps to get the required paperwork, you will need to submit it to the Special Vehicle Coordinator (SVC) for the City of Frederick.
The SVC accepts applications Tuesdays and Wedensdays between 8:30 am and 11:30 am.
