Muskegon County man sentenced in taxi cab bank robbery
MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) — A 55-year-old Muskegon County man will spend eight to 25 years behind bars following an unusual bank robbery.
Randy Benka took a cab to and from an April heist and rounded out his day running errands, including visiting an elementary school, before he was caught.
Police say after Benka robbed a Norton Shores bank, he confessed to the crime to the cabbie driving him to Holland.
The cabbie called police after dropping off Benka at a mobile home park, where he was arrested.
Benka pleaded no contest in September and was sentenced Monday. The Muskegon Chronicle reports Benka will get credit for 178 days already served in jail.
